Genome Comparisons Based on Profiles of Metabolic Pathways

چکیده

A computational method to compare organisms based on genomewide metabolic pathway analysis was developed. Using the WIT database, a metabolic pathway profile for each completed genome is generated. These profiles are records of the presence and absence of the various metabolic pathways, and constitute the basis for a comparison of organisms. A scoring scheme and an algorithm were developed to evaluate generic profiles, which are based on attributes that bear hierarchical relationships. This metabolic pathway profile-based (MPP-based) classification, as applied to analyzing fully sequenced genomes, can shed light on evolution of metabolic pathways.
